FutureSIM

Adjust South Africa's economic conditions and policy settings to explore how different scenarios could affect growth, income, jobs, unemployment, investment and manufacturing over the next decade.

Exploratory model, not a forecast.
Historical data covers 2020-2025. The 2026-2035 pathway is a simulated scenario based on your selected assumptions.

Values represent average conditions over the ten-year simulation period.

Methodology and assumptions

FutureSIM separates first-order drivers from model-generated outputs. It applies conservative relationships, interaction effects, lags, threshold behaviour and basic feedback loops. The public interface is simplified; the assumptions file in the project repository records data sources and modelling limits.

  • Historical values use World Bank API series where available, with 2025 values treated as latest available or provisional.
  • FDI is shown as percentage of GDP or an indexed approximation where the latest year is unavailable.
  • Scenario values are not official forecasts and should not be used as investment, financial or policy advice.
FutureSIM is an exploratory socioeconomic scenario tool. It is not an official forecast, financial advice, investment advice or a guarantee that any policy will produce a specific outcome.
